Our Society is a branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston founded by Mary Baker Eddy in 1879, a church designed to “commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing”.
Christian Science grew out of Mary Maker Eddy’s search for a applicable, consistent, spiritual solution to human suffering. A full explanation of this Science is contained in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
Christian Science Societies are a smaller version of a Church. Our congregation is dedicated to reinforcing the gospel of Christian healing and spiritual growth. We support each other and the community in the practicality of solving problems of all types through prayer.
History of our Society
For almost ninety years, Christian Scientists have conducted church services for residents and visitors to the South end of Whidbey Island. Initially, informal services were conducted in the homes of Christian Scientists. Then, a small church building was constructed on 1st Street in Langley, Washington. In July of 1924, the Christian Science Society, Langley, Washington was formally recognized as a branch of the Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston Massachusetts. By the early 1980′s a larger church edifice was needed and in 1986 a newly built church – the Christian Science Society, South Whidbey – was opened in a location more centrally located for the South Whidbey community at 15910 SR-525.
